First Night on the Road

First Night on the Road

At 2:15 pm on Friday, May 23, 2025 we teachers had just gathered to wave goodbye to the busses and cars as students left to begin their summer vacation. I had cleaned out my classroom and taken everything home the night before. My car was all packed and ready for the road. I didn't even stick around for the teacher's end-of-the-year party. I wanted to get as many miles logged that night as I could, so I jumped in the car and took off. When I was first contemplating the idea of this trip my friend Mark recommended seeing the waterfalls at Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, and I had never been to the UP, so I headed north. By the time I got to a rest stop just south of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin I was getting pretty droopy after a long emotional final week of teaching, so I decided to test out the new setup by crawling in the back for a well-deserved nap. By the time I woke up I wasn't feeling remotely ready to hit the road again, and the short nap turned into a full night in my grown-up fort. I was cozy, and the bathroom was a hop-skip-and-a-jump away. All in all, not a bad first night.

Overnight with other people nearby was no problem with these. Even with trucks coming and going and car doors opening and closing. Comfy all night, and very effective!
